In an effort to raise awareness about the growing threat of digital arrest cyber frauds and financial scams, JITO Bangalore South, JITO Professional Forum and JITEM hosted an informative session on "Combating Digital Arrest, Cyber Frauds, and Financial Scams,” on 23rd February 2025 at CMS Jain College, Bangalore. The event, attended by 100 members, featured expert insights from Vijay Hadagali, K.S.P.S, ACP Cyber Economic Bangalore South, and Kamal Rajnikant Vora, US CPA, Security Control Advisor at GSK.
The session began with the recitation of the Navkar Mantra, followed by the lighting of the lamp by JITO dignitaries and speakers. Shri Ranjeet Solanki, Chairman of JITO Bangalore South, welcomed all members and delegates to this informative and timely event. He emphasized the importance of being cautious while using online platforms and educating senior family members about the threat of cyber frauds.
Shri Hitesh Giriya, Vice Chairman of JPF, shared insights on joining JPF, its vision, mission, and the advantages of becoming a JPF member.
Speaker Shri Vijay Hadagali, K.S.P.S, ACP Cyber Economic Bangalore South, emphasized the need for individuals to be vigilant while online, stating, Cyber security is a collective responsibility, and its essential for individuals to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from cyber threats. He highlighted the importance of being cautious online and provided valuable tips on how to protect oneself from cyber threats.
Key takeaways from the session included: OTP scams: Never share One-Time Passwords (OTPs) received via SMS or WhatsApp. Avoid suspicious downloads: Refrain from downloading APK files from unverified sources. Be cautious of phishing emails: Never open or respond to suspicious emails that ask for personal or financial information. Courier scams and mule accounts. Individuals can immediately report any financial scam on the National Cyber Security website, and action will be taken within 30 minutes, resulting in the freezing of the scammers bank account.
Shri Kamal Rajnikant Vora, US CPA, Security Control Advisor at GSK emphasized that staying safe online requires a combination of awareness, education, and best practices. By being mindful of our online activities and taking necessary precautions, we can significantly reduce the risk of falling victim to cyber frauds and scams. He shared insights on how many big companies have fallen prey to financial scams, phishing emails, and other cyber threats.
The session concluded with a Q&A session, during which many participants doubts were cleared to their complete satisfaction.
The session was well-received by attendees, who appreciated the expert insights and practical tips shared during the session.
