Experts shed light on Trust Taxation in the program "Trust with Clarity" by JITO Bangalore North
Bengaluru, 27th July 2025 – FKCCI organized an interactive educational session on “Trust with Clarity – Income Tax and Goods and Services Tax in Simple Language” with the aim of raising awareness on the important and complex subject of Trust Taxation under the joint auspices of JITO Bangalore North Chapter and JITO Professional Forum (JPF). Bhawan, K.G. Done at Road, Bangalore.
The program was inaugurated with the recitation of Navakar Mahamantra and lighting of the lamp in the presence of JITO office bearers, dignitaries and members. JITO Bangalore North President Vimal Kataria welcomed all the guests and stressed the need to spread awareness in the society on such issues. General Secretary of the chapter, Shri. Vijay Singhvi informed everyone about the concept, objectives and framework of the program.
The coordinator of the program Shri. Sanjay Pitalia and Shri. Ganpat Kawad were the main speakers – direct tax expert CA H. Padmchand Khincha and Shri. CA Narendra Jain were introduced. CA Khincha explained in detail the specifics of the direct tax provisions applicable to trust income and said that trusts get tax exemption only if they follow compliances such as transparency, regular audit, and timely filing of income tax returns. He cautioned the participants that in case of irregularities, the income of the trust may be declared taxable.
Shri. CA Narendra Jain explained the process of 12A registration and 80G approval in simple language. He clarified that if the trust wants to take advantage of the tax exemption, it is necessary for them to comply with the conditions like audit, timely filing of returns, and selfless service to the beneficiaries. His presentation helped the participants to understand the tax side of trust management in depth.
After this in the next session of the program Shri. Milan Marothi and Shri. Satish Porwad introduced Indirect Tax (GST) experts Shri. CA Rishabh Singhvi and Shri. CA Hanish S.
Shri. CA Rishabh Singhvi highlighted the GST status of religious, service and traditional trusts and said that if the trust is only engaged in free service then generally GST is not applicable on them. However, they may come under the purview of GST if they have rental income, event fees or other commercial activities. He said that "being religious" is not enough, the form of service and the medium of income are also important.
Shri. CA Hanish S explained the provisions of GST on institutions like NGOs, Hospitals, Education Trusts, CSR Trusts. He said that if organizations are receiving fees, consulting fees etc. in return for services, then they fall under the category of supply and GST registration may be mandatory. He also pointed out that service-related donations can also come under the ambit of tax, so trusts should be vigilant and discharge responsibilities like registration, invoicing and return filing on time.
The program saw a huge turnout of participants, and F.K.C.C.I. The auditorium was packed. Social workers, representatives associated with trust management, professionals and accounting and legal experts participated in large numbers and showed keen interest in the subject. In the question and answer session, members asked complex questions related to Direct Taxes and GST written on paper, which were satisfactorily answered by the experts with practical approach and legal clarity.
A feature of the program was its interactive style, where not only the statement but also the queries of the Trust representatives were addressed. This process brought tax knowledge to the society not only in theoretical but also in practical form.
At the end of the program the four speakers by the office bearers of JITO Bangalore North Chapter – Shri. CA H. Padmchand Khincha, Shri. CA Narendra Jain, Shri. CA Rishabh Singhvi and Shri. CA Hanish S were felicitated for their valuable contribution to society and for simplifying the subject of trust taxation.
At the end of the program, Shri. Narendra Achha thanked all the speakers, guests, JITO's team and all the participants in emotional words. He thanked Chairman Shri. Vimal Kataria, Chief Secretary Shri. Vijay Singhvi, Secretary Shri. Pritesh Jain and Convener Shri. Sanjay Pitalia for making the event a success. Also, he urged everyone to continuously increase tax awareness in the society and wished them all the best.
The program concluded with the National Anthem, and the session proved to be not only enlightening but also instructive for those involved in the Trust Management and Social Service sector.
